What is ID Grinding?

I.D. Grinding, also known as, internal grinding, inside diameter grinding, inner diameter grinding, or bore grinding, is the process of removing material in a precise manner from an inside diameter of a cylindrical or conical workpiece.

Precision I.D. Grinding Capabilities

Our Precision I.D. Grinding Department is capable of grinding parts from .250” to 20” inside or outside diameters by 14 inches deep. Our Precision Internal Grinding Department can also grind faces, tapers, and radii. Our Cylindrical I.D. Grinding Department is also capable of grinding multiple features of a part on one chucking. The benefits of grinding multiple features of a part on one chucking are many. Those benefits include; fewer setups, less wasted time taking parts in and out of the machine, and runout, perpendicularity, and concentricity are held more accurately.

Universal and ID Grinding Equipment

We have universal grinders capable of grinding complex parts. With our newly retrofitted 2EF-700G Cincinnati Milacron Heald Cinternal C.N.C. internal grinding machines, our I.D. Grinding Department can grind I.D.s (Inside Diameters), O.D.s (Outside Diameters), face, grooves, tapers, or radii.

Our Cincinnati Milacron 2EF’s have excellent accuracy and dimensional repeatability. In fact, these machines can hold a 0.0001 of an inch tolerance easily and cylindricity of 0.00005” or better.

Okamoto IGM-2M High Volume Precision ID Grinding Machine

In addition to our 2EF’s cylindrical grinders, we also have Okamoto precision grinding machines.

For example, we have an Okamoto IGM-2M for higher volume orders that only require one I.D. ground. This machine has a rigid design that stands up to rigorous high-volume production.
